2020-03-18: Information in relation to the corona virus (Covid-19)
Nordic International School closely follows the development of the current situation regarding the coronavirus and the recommendations of the Swedish Government and Folkhälsomyndigheten.
Currently, the recommendation from the authorities is to keep pre-schools and schools (förskola och grundskola) open for students that are not showing any signs of illness. However we are preparing ourselves for a number of different scenarios for the future development, including a possible recommendation to close the school.
In order to maintain a safe school environment for all students and our staff, we apply a strict policy regarding signs of illness. Students and staff with symptoms of illness are expected to stay home. If symptoms appear during the school day, the student will be sent home after contact with the guardian. After recovering the student can come back to school after being symptom free for at least 48 hours.
If you are a guardian, you will be informed via Schoolsoft if there is any change to the current situation or recommendation.
We will update you continuous here.
In cooperation with Mitt i City we invite you to the school fair in Karlstad! You are welcome to get more information from the different schools, ask questions and talk to staff and students.
When? Due to the development of the coronavirus, we have decided to postpone the event.
Where? Mitt i City (shopping mall)
A message from the Principal
Nordic International School is an elementary school and stands for academic progress, discipline and teacher-led instruction based on evidence-based practices. At our school, the teacher is an authority who is a leader in the classroom and who conveys knowledge to the students. Order and discipline is a concept that pervades our school. We have a clear code of conduct that is enforced in the same way by all members of staff and both students and staff follow a dress code. We do this because we see order as a prerequisite for learning.
Our school follows the Swedish national curriculum, but parts of the education is delivered in English, which is also the primary language that is spoken in school.
To us, the most important mission of a school is about the knowledge development of the students. Therefore, we use teaching methods that are supported by international research.
Mr Emil Wallin
Nordic International school is a good school for students with self-discipline. Students wanting to achieve good results with help of qualified teachers, that also have a great way of reaching out to every student no matter what level, should consider Nordic International school. A big plus is the school uniform concept which helps both parents and students.
Many people believe that you need to be an expert in English to go to our school, but that is certainly not the case. The level of English varies a lot among our students when they start at our school. Some have lived in other countries and have already become advanced in their language skills, others have not yet developed as far. We adapt the level to each student. What is most important is that you are motivated to study hard and learn.

Teacher in English och Music, NIS Karlstad
It is only in a calm, orderly and optimal learning environment, regulated by clear rules of interaction and utmost respect, that our students maximise their academic development.
